Solar industry speaks out about reduction of subsidies

Recently the Minister for Climate Change, Greg Combet announced that the solar multiplier, the initiative that increases the amount of Small-scale Technology Certificates available to solar PV systems, would be scrapped early.

Solar industry personnel have stated that the advanced closure date of the scheme will create a boom in installations as homeowners rush to take advantage of the last days of the multiplier. This according to Nigel Morris, Director of SolarBusinessServices, could lead to mistakes in installation and a prolonged depression in the industry following 1 January 2013 when the scheme closes.
