Are renewables driving power prices lower?

South Australia, with its high penetration of wind and household solar PV, has a unique energy mix. And it is this unique mix that may be leading to a lower wholesale cost of electricity due to low cost of generation from free wind and sun. In contrast coal and gas have high fuel costs and are being displaced by cheap, first to be dispatched renewables.
