Tasmania to be disconnected from National Market until March

The Basslink undersea power cable between Tasmania and Victoria is now expected to be operational by mid-March - weeks longer than originally forecast.
The interconnecter, which allows power to be imported and exported from Tasmania, failed on December 20.
Late last year the cable imported 40 per cent of the state's electricity, because an extended dry period had depleted Hydro Tasmania's water storages which are used to generate hydro electricity.
Basslink had estimated it could take two months to fix.
