Time running out for a deal on the RET

The federal opposition will meet business, manufacturers, clean energy firms and unions on Monday to discuss the renewable energy target, with just two weeks before the emissions-intensive sector is forced to pay liabilities under the scheme, and as talks continue between Labor and the government.

The future of the renewable energy target, which seeks to have 20 per cent of electricity coming from renewable sources by 2020, has been under a cloud since early 2014, when the government commissioned a review of the target by self-professed climate sceptic Dick Warburton.
