NSW seen as next electricity retailing battleground

New South Wales is shaping up to be the next battleground in electricity retailing, with several second-tier retailers poised to ramp up their presence and try to erode the dominance of the big three players - Origin Energy, AGL Energy and EnergyAustralia - should Premier Mike Baird win this month's election.
New Zealand's Meridian Energy in February launched its online Powershop business in NSW, its first major move outside its home market in Victoria.
Snowy Hydro's Red Energy and Lumo Energy brands, the Simply Energy business owned by GDF Suez and Hydro Tasmania's Momentum Energy business are all expected to invest more in building their NSW presence, as well as Alinta Energy, should Mr Baird's Coalition government win the March 28 poll, entrenching the state's full deregulation of electricity prices.
