Carbon savings windfall for energy efficient companies

 


 


Companies are saving the equivalent of around $100 for every tonne of ­emissions they have reduced by ­becoming more energy efficient.


While major emitters now face a ­carbon tax of $23 per tonne of ­emissions, a report for the federal ­government’s Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program by consultancy firm ACIL Tasman shows it can save ­companies money to cut emissions rather than cost them.


The EEO, which was introduced by the Howard government, requires large energy users to identify, evaluate and report publicly on energy savings opportunities.
