Yallourn power station workers begin 48-hour strike

THE CFMEU has begun a 48-hour strike at the Yallourn power plant in Victoria's Latrobe Valley as part of a protracted dispute with owner Energy Australia over wages and consultation on operating decisions. The strike is the second stoppage this month and the longest in more than a decade.
Last week the threat of a 24-hour strike, which was called off at the last minute, caused the cancellation of contract maintenance work for 600 people.
The plant supplies eight per cent of the nation's power, and 22 per cent of Victoria's needs.
