A TRIAL in North Adelaide is offering incentives for consumers to reduce their peak electricity demand and potentially save up to $500 a year, in a bid to tackle the cause of high prices.
The SA Power Networks trial involves a fundamental change in thinking about how customers are charged. It links bills to levels of demand instead of simply adding up total electricity usage.
Under the so-called capacity tariff system, customers would be rewarded for drawing less than their individually determined demand but be penalised if they go above it.
