Network business cleared in bushfire inquiry
The Bushfires Royal Commission that was established after the disastrous Black Saturday bushfires concluded that network infrastructure owned by SP AusNet contributed to the blaze. However, this is being challenged by new evidence stating that lightning strikes in the area compromised the line, leading to its eventual combustion and ignition of the Kilmore East bushfire. The Royal Commission found that the line had not been properly serviced.
This new evidence which claims to highlight inaccuracies in the Royal Commission’s finding goes some way to clear SP AusNet of negligence. Although others claim that the line was rusted and should have been serviced before the fires.
