SA faces off against Eastern States over wholesale gaming.

 

It has long been the unspoken truth of the wholesale market; generators have been known to withhold generation capacity to influence the price of electricity in a process known as gaming.


South Australia, the most vulnerable state to the practice due to its volatile weather patterns and centralized generation assets, has spoken out against gaming at a national meeting of energy ministers. But efforts by SA’s energy minister to combat gaming were defeated by an alliance of NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
