QLD told to sell power assets

A report drafted by former Treasurer Peter Costello will recommend to the QLD government that some of the power assets held in public ownership be sold in order to pay back state debt.

The QLD government owns a substantial amount of generation, transmission, distribution and retail assets. The report is said to recommend the sale of its generation companies: CS Energy and Stanwell Corporation; as well as its transmission company: Powerlink.

The sale of which is said to generate $10 billion which would go to paying off state debt, but efforts by the Federal Government to encourage privatization have fallen on deaf ears. Although he did state that voters would be able to decide at the next election in 2015.
