Heatwave continues to affect NEM

As high temperatures continue across Australia the affect it is having on energy demand and pricing is becoming apparent.

The close of 2012 saw the hottest average temperatures on record and this has continued into 2013. A high of 39.6 degrees on the 29th of November 2012 saw the highest pricing event of last year of $9,974.42/MWh.

Prices reached $4,203/MWh on the 4th of January this year in SA and $4,281 in Victoria on the same day. As yet, these extreme weather events have not pushed wholesale prices to the heights of 2012, but the continuation of forecasted extreme weather may flow to consumer prices in the near future.
