SA to build biggest Wind Farm in Australia
With 199 installed turbines and 600MW of capacity, the $1.3 billion Ceres Wind Farm being developed by REpower may become Australia’s largest. The project in currently in the application stage and must pass SA State and community processes.
The Wind Farm will span 18,000 hectares on the Yorke Peninsula with landholders compensated for turbines housed on their land. In accordance with strict planning parameters, the turbines will be housed 1.3km from residential properties.
Electricity prices in the state are expected to be reduced by the project because the maximum output of the Ceres Wind Farm corresponds with the peak demand of the state, meaning the cheaply produced electricity will force more expensive generators out of the NEM.
