Power giant Alinta Energy will bring its customer service call centre operations home in a move that will create 230 jobs in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley region.
The call centre had been based in the Philippines but Wednesday’s announcement means Alinta’s east coast customer service call centre will be moved back to Australia over the next six months.
Alinta owns the nearby Loy Yang B coal-fired power station and the announcement means it will become one of the region’s largest employers.
The Latrobe City Council has welcomed the news, which follows the loss of 750 jobs when the Hazelwood power station closed in 2017.
Mayor Sharon Gibson said Alinta’s decision would create much-needed employment in the region.
