AEMO has released its QED for Q4 2019, which reports on the performance of the energy sector.

In this document, which looks at all elements of the sector from weather to electricity generation sources and gas market supply, there are many key findings identified. Some of them include:

  • 2019 was Australia’s hottest year on record, and the second hottest globally
  • Tight days of supply resulted in Lack of Reserve (LOR) conditions declared on the 20th and 30th of December 2019 in Victoria
  • Average operational demand was slightly lower than Q4 2018, with average daytime demand falling by almost 1000 megawatts due to increased solar uptake
  • NEM spot wholesale electricity prices and average black-coal fired generation were at their lowest levels since Q4 2016
  • Wholesale gas prices were at their lowest levels since the end of 2017
